Diary of a Necromancer – Eldritch Times
Eldritch Times – The Early Years
Nurse’s Note: Born 7 pounds 10 ounces, 18 inches long, 32 fully formed teeth. Silent, always smiling.
The dead are watching us now. That’s the good news.
My sister told me that mother killed her. Mother told me I don’t have a sister.
I heard my mother calling me into the kitchen. As I was heading down the stairs I heard my mother whisper from the closet saying “Don’t go down there, I heard it too”.
I never go to sleep. But I keep waking up.
I always thought my cat had a staring problem, she always seemed fixated on my face. Until one day, when I realised that she was always looking just behind me.
Eldritch Times – Fatherhood
I awoke to the sound of the baby monitor crackling with the voice of my wife comforting my firstborn child. As I adjusted to a new position, my arm brushed against my wife, sleeping next to me.
I began tucking my young son into bed and he told me, “Daddy check for monsters under my bed.” I looked underneath for his amusement and see him, another him, under the bed, staring back at me quivering and whispering, “Daddy, there’s somebody on my bed.”
I went upstairs to check on my sleeping toddler. The window was open and the bed was empty.
There is nothing like the laughter of a baby. Unless it’s 1 A.M. and you’re home alone.
My daughter won’t stop crying and screaming in the middle of the night. I visit her grave and ask her to stop, but it doesn’t help.
I kiss my wife and daughter goodnight before I go to sleep. When I wake up, I’m in a padded room and the nurses tell me it was all just a dream.
Eldritch Times – Asylum
Sleep did not come easily for me tonight as I stayed in the hospital ward, for the portraits on the wall only portrayed the deformed, the decrepit, and the damned. I vowed I would ask the nurse to take them all down in the morning, however when I woke up, I discovered that the hospital had no portraits, only windows.
After struggling desperately to move any part of my paralytic body just to alert the doctors that I was conscious before they made the first incision, I was relieved to see that one of the nurses had noticed my pupils dilating from the bright light. She leaned in closer and, in a whisper that tickled my ear, said “you think we don’t know you’re awake?”
The doctors told me that I might experience a phantom limb from time to time. Nobody prepared me for the moments though, when I felt cold fingers brush across my phantom hand.
I was lying in the bed and with my feet dangling out of the covers. I felt a hand grab my feet.
Eldritch Times – Loneliness
Growing up with cats and dogs, I got used to the sounds of scratching at my door while I slept. Now that I live alone, it is much more unsettling
There was a picture in my phone of me sleeping. I live alone.
I woke up to hear knocking on glass. At first, I thought it was the window until I heard it come from the mirror again.
I wondered why I was casting two shadows. After all, there was only a single light-bulb.
I started to drift off into a comfortable sleep when I heard my name being whispered. Have I mentioned I live alone?
After so many years living alone in this apartment I came to a startling revelation. In this time I have closed far more doors than I have opened.
Eldritch Times – Job
I was working the night shift alone tonight. There was a face in the cellar staring at the security camera.
They delivered the mannequins in bubble wrap. From the main room I began to hear popping.
I got home, tired after a long day’s work and ready for a relaxing night alone. I reached for the light switch, but another hand was already there.
Eldritch Times – Visitors
The last thing I saw was my alarm clock flashing 12:07 before she pushed her long rotting nails through my chest, her other hand muffling my screams. I sat bolt upright, relieved it was only a dream, but as I saw my alarm clock read 12:06, I heard my closet door creak open.
The grinning face stared at me from the darkness beyond my bedroom window. Have I ever mentioned that I live on the 13th floor?
Don’t be scared of the monsters, just look for them. Look to your left, to your right, under your bed, behind your dresser, in your closet but never look up, she hates being seen.
sHe Even reads over my Letters to make sure I spelled everything Perfectly. although My capitalization isn’t Excellent yet.
She asked why I was breathing so heavily. I wasn’t.
Eldritch Times – Wife
My wife woke me up last night to tell me there was an intruder in our house. She was murdered by an intruder 2 years ago.
After working a hard day I came home to see my wife cradling our child. I didn’t know which was more frightening, seeing my dead wife and stillborn child, or knowing that someone broke into my apartment to place them there.
“I can’t sleep” she whispered, crawling into bed with me. I woke up cold, clutching the dress she was buried in.
The longer I wore it the more it grew on me. She had such pretty skin.
Eldritch Times – Paranoia
I swear I just saw my reflection in the mirror blink.
I found a small note on my bedroom table today, it simply read ‘Put back the mirrors. We miss watching you’.
I heard the scream across the hallway, but my eyes wouldn’t open and I couldn’t move.
It’s been watching me for hours now… Sometimes I catch glimpses of its reflection on the computer screen, but I dare not turn around…
Eldritch Times – End of Days
I woke up and everything felt wrong; It was too quiet outside. I looked out the window and saw everyone standing still, looking at my house.
I was the last man on Earth and I sat alone in a room, contemplating what to do next. Suddenly there was a knock at the door.
I was having a pleasant dream when what sounded like hammering woke me. After that, I could barely hear the muffled sound of dirt covering the coffin over my own screams.
I can’t move, breathe, speak or hear and it’s so dark all the time. If I knew it would be this lonely, I would have been cremated instead.
