Dino Dash: Cutting Room Floor

Dino Dash – Cutting Room Floor

Unused game cover images for the game – DinoDash Endless Runner

Description

Hidden behind the meteor dust and prototype menus, Dino Dash has a tiny fossil bed of forgotten artwork that never made it into the final release. This gallery collects unused and alternate game covers created during the project’s early development phase, giving players a glimpse into the strange little evolution chamber where the game slowly sharpened its claws. The final cover art leans heavily into retro arcade energy, but these unused designs wander through entirely different moods like a confused dinosaur stomping through genre portals. Some versions feel like a lost PlayStation mascot platformer from 1999, while others resemble mobile endless runners trapped inside neon volcanic fever dreams. 🦖🌋

Several covers experimented with exaggerated action poses, placing the dinosaur hero against collapsing skies packed with meteors, lightning, and oversized explosions. One prototype design pushed the survival aspect harder, framing the dinosaur as a desperate final survivor sprinting through extinction itself. Another early concept went in the opposite direction, embracing a more playful cartoon style with oversized eyes, bright jungle palettes, and rounded lettering that looked pulled from cereal-box platformers. None of these versions survived into the finished presentation, but each one reveals a different interpretation of what Dino Dash could have become.

The unused typography is especially fascinating. Early logos stretched toward chunky arcade aesthetics with cracked stone textures and fiery gradients, while later experiments shifted into sleek pixel fonts that matched the game’s retro-inspired gameplay loop. Some mockups even abandoned the meteor apocalypse theme entirely, instead focusing on speed, shields, and score chasing. It feels less like browsing discarded covers and more like walking through parallel universes where tiny design decisions rewired the entire personality of the game.

Dino Dash Cutting Room Floor

Dino Dash itself is a retro-styled dinosaur survival game developed in Unity, originally created during the Nokia 3310 Jam 3 game jam event. The player controls a dinosaur attempting to survive an endless meteor storm while protecting themselves with a shield mechanic and chasing leaderboard scores.

For preservation fans, prototype artwork like this matters. Unused covers often capture development stages that disappear once a game launches publicly. They preserve abandoned ideas, tone shifts, experimental branding, and visual directions that would otherwise vanish into forgotten folders named “FINAL_final2_REAL.png”. The Cutting Room Floor section exists to rescue those fragments before they sink beneath the tar pits of deleted assets forever.
